Okey Chris

Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has called on Ndi Anambra, both at home and in the Diaspora, to think home in order to develop the various communities in the state.

Obiano, who spoke during the recent launching of Elder Raymond Anikpe Foundation for the Less Privileged at Ugwuoji, Igbariam, Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, lamented that well-to-do citizens of the state were not doing more towards the eradication of poverty and the empowerment of the rural people.

He, however, commended Chief Lawrence Anikpe, who instituted the foundation in memory of his late father and enjoined philanthropic organizations and individuals in the state to emulate him.

Governor Obiano, further announced that inland roads in Igbariam would soon be constructed in line with his administration’s commitment to open up the rural areas, even as he appealed to the people of the community to support his government towards enhancing a good future for their children.

On his part, the Chairman on the occasion and a construction giant, Chief Sir Ben Emeka, called on wealthy people in the Omambala region to emulate Chief Anikpe who instituted the foundation to transform the lives of his people.

Earlier, the President of the foundation, Chief Lawrence Anikpe (Onwa Igbariam), said that he instituted the foundation to give widows and the less privileged in the community a sense of belonging and reduce their plight in the society.

Chief Anikpe noted that very soon, Governor Obiano would commission a One Hundred Million Naira Skill Acquisition Center in Igbariam Community, which he would establish, in collaboration with the Anambra State Government and development partners.

He explained that the beneficiaries of the centre would be given money grants to start the trade they had learned to empower themselves and be useful to the society and their families.
