Barely two weeks after denying endorsement of any candidate on the February 2015 general election, The Southeast Traders under the
aegis of the South-East Amalgamated Market Traders Association (SEAMATA), yesterday adopted President Goodluck Jonathan, the Presidential flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as their candidate on the 2015 general election.

whose membership included Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States applauded the strategic vision of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) under the party’s current leadership and vowed to do everything within its powers to support the party candidates all over the country in the forthcoming polls.

This came to the fore sequel to the Voice Vote following a motion moved by Chief Christopher Talibe from Abia State and seconded by Mr. Festus Onowu from Enugu State at the group's Special Meeting held at the Women Development Center, Awka, Anambra State.
Speaking on the occasion, the President-General of SEAMATA, Chief Dr. Okwudili Ezenwankwo explained that their decision to throw their weight behind President Jonathan and APGA candidates in the forth-coming elections was influenced by the intense lobby mounted by Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State and other due considerations they made to that effect.

Ezenwankwo also reassured that the traders would continue to support Governor Obiano's administration as a result of his magnanimity and support to the traders in the South-East zone which would soon transit to enabling Ndigbo take their rightful position in the country.
Responding, Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State commended the market union for their kind decision to work for President Jonathan's re-election noting that the President would guarantee a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria, devoid of discrimination and other forms of extremism when voted in.

Obiano also disclosed that the State government had commenced the construction of a world-class international market at Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of the State with a view to availing the South East traders greatest opportunity to grow their businesses.

He further announced that his government had harmonized all the levies and fees being paid by traders in order to prevent any incidence of double or multiple taxations, even as he pledged to improve sanitary conditions, provide more waste management containers and receptacles at various markets across the State, and to organize special seminars where financial experts would educate them on banking transactions.

He enjoined them to channel their levies copiously into government accounts so as to beef up the State’s internally-generated revenue.
