Exclusive: Tension in Enugu over murder of Chief Magistrate

Residents of Enugu, the Coal City Capital, have been thrown into panic following the murder of a serving Chief Magistrate O J Nwani.

Orient Daily learnt that the judicial officer was killed by suspected assassins.

Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the incident, saying it has commenced investigations to unravel the motive behind the assassination.

A source told our correspondent that the Magistrate, who is serving in Enugu South, Magisterial division was reportedly called by his assailant and that when he came out, he was shot severally in his head and chest.

It was further gathered that the chief magistrate was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where he was declared dead.

Confirming the incident, the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ebere Amaraizu said that the command had not made any arrest, but that efforts were on to track-down the killers.  

According to Amaraizu, “our operatives are on the trail of the murderers”.
