Anambra State was a shocker as about 200 members of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Idemili-South Council Area, recently stormed the state’s party secretariat at Awka in a peaceful demonstration, against the Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Political Matters, Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike.
The demonstrators, who bear placards which read: “Joe-Martins Uzodike is an Impostor”; “Uzodike Must Stop Imposing Chief Basil Eurchalu on us”; “These Men Sabotaging Our Party Activities Must Go”; “APGA is a Peaceful Political Party, Uzodike and his Accomplices Must Give Way for Peace to Reign”, among others, alleged that they have suspended Chief Uzodike from the party as a result of “anti-party activities and violation of APGA constitution.”
They also accused him of imposing one Chief Basil Eurchalu on them without due consultation.

Reading a statement entitled “Enemies of the Governor”, Secretary of the party at Nnobi Ward 11, Mr. Ifeanyi Ezeadu, posited that Chief Uzodike is a stumbling block to the political emancipation of APGA in the council area and Anambra State generally.
According to the statement which was also issued to Orient Daily; “Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State is the most performing governor in the federal republic of Nigeria. Within a short period of time he clinched to power, he has demonstrated an unequal deep sense of purpose and responsibility in discharge of his duties as Governor.”
“However, activities of some government appointees have been impacting negatively on the minds of the good people of Anambra state and as such, are fast eroding the new level of confidence the people repose on the new action government…top on the list of official miscreants impeding the progress of Chief Obiano and our party is Barr. Joe-Martins Uzodike, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs.”

Additionally, the paper which was endorsed by a group, APGA Stakeholders Forum, Idemili-South LGA, and signed by Chief Ifeanyi Mba as Chairman of the party in the local government area and Hon. Godfrey Obiesie as Secretary; postulated that “Right from the days of Mr. Peter Obi as Governor, Barr. Uzodike has been a stumbling block to the success of APGA in Idemili South as well as impinging negatively on the popularity of the Governor, who he claims to represent. Apart from portraying the state government as an arrogant and malicious entity, his description of his Excellency as politically naïve and timid sends the wrong signal to the good people of the state.”

“It may be recalled that since 2012, Barr. Uzodike has set APGA in Idemili South on the path of self destruction by sponsoring an illegal parallel executive made up of party renegades. The poor performance of APGA in 2013 Governorship Election in Idemili South testifies to this…Indeed, Joe-Martins is an enemy of the governor. And we cannot allow this trend to continue especially now the general election is fast approaching. Barr. Uzodike must be called to order before he destroys the good name of Chief (Dr) Willie Obiano and the new found acceptance of APGA in our council area… a stitch in time saves nine,” it concluded.

In a similar vein, the aggrieved APGA faithful presented what they tagged “a resolution” passed at the end of their meeting held on 7th August, 2014 at Ojoto, captioned; “Suspension of Chief Basil Eurchalu of Nnobi Ward 11, Mr. Azubuike Okigbo (Agubanze), Ojoto Ward and Chief Matins Uzodike (Dike Udo) Awka-Etiti Ward 1”, alleging that Uzodike and other trios “conveyed an illegal party meeting despite been warned by the Local Government Party Chairman Chief Ifeanyi Mba (JP) not to hold that meeting via a letter dated 30th July, 2014 addressed to Uzodike.”

Also speaking, APGA Women Leader in the council area, Mrs. Nkechinyere Onyejegbu lamented that Chief Uzodike is pulling them down, because according to her, the Special Adviser to Governor Obiano on Politics takes decisions alone without even consulting the party stakeholders who were there before he joined the party.

Responding on behalf of Anambra State APGA Chairman, Mr. Mike Kwentoh; Mr. Sam Emeka, the party Chairman in Ayamelum Local Government Area, promised that they would look into the matter immediately so as to entrench lasting peace among them now is still at an ankle deep.
However, all efforts by our reporter to get Chief Uzodike comment on the matter proved abortive as he was not in his office twice he visited and the phone numbers he was given to call was not reachable at the time of filing this report.
