Maku, Victor Umeh, APGA Factional Chairman react to Akunyili death

Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku has described Professor Dora Akunyili, who passed on at an Indian hospital on Sunday as a patriot who made supreme sacrifices for the nation to save the lives of other people.
The minister said in a condolence message that the death of Professor Akunyili, a former Minister of Information, is a huge loss to the family‎, the entire womenfolk and the country in general.
He said that the management and staff of the Federal Ministry of Information received the news of the erstwhile Minister, Professor Dora Akunyili’s death with deep shock.
“She was a patriot, who devoted her career to the ‎struggle to enhance the quality of life of the citizenry. Professor Akunyili displayed uncommon passion and zest for service to the nation. ‎She was a social crusader whose faith in Nigeria was unwavering.
“As the Director General of NAFDAC, Professor Dora Akunyili redefined the mandate of the agency‎ and took the campaign against fake and unwholesome food and drugs in the country to a level where her tremendous efforts saved the lives of thousands of Nigerians.
“She prosecuted her campaign against fake drugs with the single-mindedness that brushed aside frequent threats to her life, including assassination attempts by the powerful interests who felt imperiled by her quest to clean up the food and drug business,” the minister said.
Labaran Maku said Professor Akunyili was “a colossus who left her footprint across a broad spectrum of ‎Nigeria's public life. Her numerous awards, both at home and abroad, bore testimony to a world that recognised and appreciated her immense contributions to humanity.
He said that Professor Akunyili attained a status of no mean repute as an outstanding public servant adding that she would be remembered for initiating the Rebranding Nigeria Campaign which the Federal Ministry of Information launched with the hope of repackaging the nation and improving its image abroad.
Concluding, Maku said “Professor Akunyili left a legacy of service to God and humanity and her memory will remain evergreen in the minds of Nigerians, because of her commitment and untiring efforts to add value to the life of the people.” 
He expressed the deepest condolences of the Federal Ministry of Information to the Akunyili family and Nigerians over the unfortunate loss of Professor Dora Akunyili. 
Other condolences have continued to pour in for the family of the former minister.
The United Progressive Party, [UPP] expressed shock at the demise of Professor Dora Akunyili describing the Amazon as “a foremost patriot and a role model for all public office holders.
In a statement, the National Chairman of UPP, Chief Chekwas Okorie [Oje Ozi Ndigbo] recalled that Dora put her life on the line to save millions of other Nigerians who would have perished as a result of fake drugs.
“She survived all the plots by the merchants of death but succumbed to death when the Almighty God chose to recall her having lived a very worthy life in spite of not attaining old age.
While condoling the Akunyili family especially her husband, Dr. Chike Akunyili, “who stood by her in all her struggle in public service and all through her period of sickness,” Chief Chekwas prayed that God should grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
In other development, APGA embattled national Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh, yesterday react to the death of Prof. Dora Akunyili describing it at a huge vacuum hard to refill. According to him, the late NAFDAC boss imparted many lives while alive.
