Obiano Takes Oath Of Office . . . Harps On 4 Point Agenda


Mr Willie Maduabuchi Obiano, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) flag bearer, in Anambra State, will be sworn-in today as the seventh governor of Anambra State.  The swearing-in ceremony will bear all the adornments of ceremonial splendour, befitting the investiture.
A glimpse of today’s protocol will unveil a podium, with a security cordon, upon which the state Chief Judge, Mr. Justice Peter Umeadi, will stand, assisted by other state counsels to administer the oath of office.  Mr. Willie Obiano, appearing in suit, will be assisted by his wife, the first lady of the state Mrs. E.V. Obiano, as he reads after the judge, facing an array of microphones, and cameras of various shapes and sizes.
His Excellency, Mr. Peter Onwubuasi Obi, the out-going governor of Anambra State is expected to grace the podium and be seated among other dignitaries to graciously perform the ceremonial hand-over, to the in-coming governor.  The spectators will be there in their numbers to cheer the dramatis personae while armed security personnel will be swarming round to keep miscreants in proper check.
From the background, the Nigeria Police Band usually supported by other cultural troupes is expected to brighten the mood of the occasion.
Before now, Anambra State had been run by some civilian governors namely, Chukwuemeka Ezeife (1992-1993), Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju (199-2003), Dr. Chris Ngige (2003-2006) and Mr. Peter Obi (2006-March 17, 2014).  Other chief executives that came in between Governor Obi’s first tenure were Dame Virgy Etiaba (2006-2007) and Dr. Andy Uba (May-June 2007).
Born in 1955 in his home town of Aguleri Out in today’s Anambra West Local Government Area, Willie Obiano attended Central School and the prestigious Christ the King College (CKC) both in Onitsha before proceeding to University of Lagos where he earned a B.Sc (Second Class Upper) in Accounting in 1979 and later an MBA in Marketing from the same university in 1993.  He is a Fellow (FCA) of the Institute of Charted Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
Obiano started his banking career as a Supervisor in First Bank of Nigeria Plc in 1981 from where he moved to Taxaco Nigeria Plc as a lead accountant specializing in Bunkering, Lube-blending and Refinery Audits.  He later became the Chief Internal Auditor at the oil company.
